Directors wanted

Lane Cove Theatre Company are looking for Directors interested in making a submission for their 2013 season.

We can offer 4 events for the year :

1) Lane Cove Harmony Festival – May/June – an adult play – 3 weekends of performances

2) July/August – A Dinner Theatre or Major Fundraising event – eg: a costume ball – in our local golf or sporting club auditorium

3) Lane Cove Cameraygal Festival – September – a Children’s Musical Play – 3 weekends of performances

4) Lane Cove Voce-N-Ale – October – a one-off event perhaps incorporating a small troupe or solo actors, musicians, artists, possibly in our new art gallery. An evening or afternoon of monologues, caberet showcase etc.

If you’re interested in directing a show with LCTC in 2013 please send a covering letter about yourself, your theatre experience and your particular interest in the chosen play and email it back to us. Or you can post your submission to us at;

Seeking Artistic and Musical Directors for ‘Iolanthe’

The Savoy Arts Company is currently seeking expressions of interest from artistic and musical directors, for its 2013 production of Iolanthe.

This will take place at the Zenith Theatre, Chatswood in September 2013 and include ‘preview’ performances in the Southern Highlands and Collaroy Plateau.

Auditions will be taking place in February, with rehearsals starting in May. Prospective directors’ expressions of interest should include previous experience, and prospective artistic directors should provide a brief outline of their ‘vision’ or ideas for Iolanthe.

Short+Sweet Sydney is producing 160 plays from Jan-Mar 2013. We are looking for more artists to get involved, with room for 160 directors and Independent Theatre Companies and up to 600 actors. Deadline for script submissions to S+S Sydney, Fri 14th Sep 11:59pm
Finally, the script deadline for anyone wanting to enter Short+Sweet Sydney 2013 (as well as three other S+S festivals) is this Fri 14th Sep at 11:59pm. If you’re sitting on a 10 min masterpiece, we want to see it! We will shortlist close to 200 scripts for our festival and we want more work to choose from. To submit, follow this link:

International News

S+S Mumbai finished last week with 30 new works from the subcontinent and beyond. Festival Director Ira Dubey is presenting her second festival. Check out the details in this story from the Mumbai Theatre Guide.

Meanwhile in Malaysia the first ever Short+Sweet Penang opens next week with Executive Producer Joe Hasham and Festival Director Faridah Merican presenting both Dance and Theatre programs. The Kuala Lumpur program (starting next month) has been expanded to include Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance and, for the first time anywhere in the world – Short+Sweet Comedy featuring 10 local stand-up comedians.

Short+Sweet Canberra Update

Short+Sweet Canberra 2012 finished last week with a stunning sold out Gala Final at the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Under the guidance of guest Festival Director Alex Broun, the Festival set new box office records for Short+Sweet in the nation’s capital and delighted audiences with the high quality of acting, directing and writing on show.

FREE Masterclass – Movement & Stage Combat
Over the past two months we’ve been running a FREE Masterclass Series, giving you the opportunity to come and learn from industry experts on a range of topics. The next installment in the Series is our Movement & Stage Combat Masterclass with Scott Witt.

Scott Witt has been active in theatre and television for over 25 years and has been acting, adapting, writing, fight directing, directing and or clowning for Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Griffin, Opera Australia, La Boite Theatre, Queensland Theatre Company and many more places. Currently, Scott is the Associate Lecturer in Movement at the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

Production teams wanted

Berowra Musical Society is seeking proposals for it’s Christmas Pantomime, and 2013 productions.

The Christmas Pantomime will be staged in mid December 2012, with auditions and rehearsals commencing in October.

The 2013 productions will be staged over the last 2 weekends of May and October, with rehearsals commencing in late January and early July respectively.

Rehearsals are held on Monday and Thursday nights, at Berowra Community Centre, Gully Rd, Berowra, which is also where the productions will be staged.

Proposal forms can be obtained from the society’s website, http://www.bmsi.org.au, and written proposals should be emailed to the committee of the society at admin@bmsi.org.au.

Submissions should include the proposed show, including any particular staging or technical requirements, cast size, and any creative ideas. A biography for each member of the Production Team should be supplied. If the team is not complete, the committee will try and assist in filling the vacancies.
